Hyundai Motor America is recalling 94,622 vehicles in the United States after identifying a potential fire hazard involving overheating power seat motors. The recall covers certain 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans and 2017–2020 Genesis G80 models, according to a notice from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency published the recall notice in October 2026, and Reuters and Yonhap News Agency also reported the issue.

The problem involves the front power seat adjustment system. According to the recall notice, a stuck power seat control switch could cause the seat motor to keep running, potentially leading to overheating and fire. The hazard could occur while a vehicle is parked or being driven, increasing the risk of injury.

Hyundai is advising owners of affected vehicles to park outdoors and keep their cars away from other vehicles and buildings until the necessary repairs have been completed. The precaution is intended to reduce the potential consequences of a vehicle fire while the company works on a permanent solution.

As of October 17, 2026, a repair remedy is still under development. Hyundai expects to begin mailing notification letters to affected vehicle owners on December 7, 2026. Owners can check whether their vehicles are included in the recall through the official NHTSA recall search website.

Hyundai owners seeking additional information can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Genesis owners can contact Genesis customer service at 844-340-1200. The recall numbers are 308 for Hyundai and 035G for Genesis.
