Sending a message, especially an intimate one, to the wrong person can make you feel awkward and embarrassed for a lifetime. However, with Apple’s introduction of a feature in iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, macOS Ventura, or later, you can now unsend a message for up to two minutes after sending it. In this blog post, we will share how to unsend messages on Apple devices.

How to Unsend a Message on an iPhone

Before we begin, the unsend feature only works on iMessage, so SMS text messages cannot be unsent. The following will let you unsend a message on an iPhone:

  1. In Messages, tap a conversation.
  2. Touch and hold the message you want to unsend.
  3. Tap Undo Send.

The message disappears and a notification that says “You unsent a message” appears. You can unsend an iMessage for up to two minutes after you send it.

Remember: You have two minutes after sending an iMessage to unsend it.
