xAI’s chatbot Grok is facing backlash after users began using it to alter photos of people on X without their permission.
The issue appeared after X introduced a new image editing feature that lets anyone tag Grok to edit an image, even if they didn’t post it. The person in the photo is not notified when their image is changed.
Over the past few days, X has been flooded with edited images showing women, children, celebrities, and even world leaders in altered or sexualized appearances.
Many of the images depict people in bikinis, revealing outfits, or other suggestive scenarios. Reports suggest the trend started when adult-content creators experimented with the tool on their own photos, before spreading to non-consensual edits of other users.
The situation escalated after Grok was reportedly used to create sexualized images of minors. In one case, the chatbot later acknowledged a failure in its safeguards when responding to an incident involving edited images of young girls.
