OpenAI has expanded access to GPT-6 Astra after CEO Sam Altman apologized for what he described as a “messy” rollout that left many paying users unable to use the company’s newest AI model.
Altman said GPT-6 Astra is now available to all Pro, Enterprise and Business Premium users through ChatGPT Work and Codex. The model is also live through the OpenAI API, while access for Plus and other Business users is still being rolled out gradually.

We will start rollout to Plus and Business users next.
Thank you for the patience.
The rollout has attracted criticism because many paying subscribers expected access when Astra launched, but OpenAI initially prioritized a limited group of organizations and its Daybreak program. The company has since promised to expand access more quickly, and users who couldn’t access Astra during the rollout will also receive a banked daily reset as compensation.
GPT-6 Astra is designed for complex tasks including advanced reasoning, coding, computer use, research, cybersecurity and document creation. OpenAI says the model achieved a 98% score on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 100% on ExploitBench.
The model also represents a major step in OpenAI’s cybersecurity capabilities. The company says Astra has reached its “Critical” cybersecurity capability threshold, meaning it can identify previously unknown vulnerabilities and work on sophisticated cybersecurity tasks. That capability has also led OpenAI to introduce stronger monitoring and safety measures around the model.
For developers, GPT-6 Astra is available through the OpenAI API under the model name gpt-6-astra. OpenAI lists pricing at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with support for a context window of up to 1.05 million tokens.

For now, GPT-6 Astra access depends on the user’s plan and how far the rollout has progressed. Pro users and Business Premium users have broader access in Work and Codex, while Plus and Business Standard users may still need to wait for the rollout to reach their accounts
