South Korean cryptocurrency exchange GOPAX suspended cryptocurrency deposits and standard withdrawals on November 6 after receiving an email from a group claiming to have hacked the platform.

The exchange later halted trading and canceled all outstanding orders. GOPAX said it had not verified whether the threat was genuine and had not identified any customer asset loss when it announced the suspension, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The exchange said it was moving customer cryptocurrency held in internet-connected hot wallets into offline cold storage as a precaution. Standard deposits and withdrawals were disabled while the transfer and security checks were underway. Customers could still submit manual withdrawal requests through customer support, according to GOPAX’s suspension notice.

GOPAX said the suspension began with deposits and withdrawals at 2:55 p.m. local time, followed by a trading halt at about 3:53 p.m. The exchange did not provide a reopening time. Its second notice confirmed the trading suspension and cancellation of outstanding orders.
