Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has launched Gemini 4 Argon, a new AI model designed to handle tasks including coding, research, writing, and engineering.
However, Google says cybersecurity is one of the areas where Argon is particularly capable.
The model is currently being made available only to a select group of Google’s cybersecurity partners through its Fairwind Program, the company’s security initiative. Google says Argon was specifically trained for defensive cybersecurity work and can autonomously identify, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities.
Argon is also designed for coding and engineering tasks. Google says its own employees are already using the model in their daily work for tasks such as debugging and migrating codebases. The company also highlights its ability to understand visual information, including analyzing long videos and interpreting charts.
Google describes Argon as a model built for complex, long-running workflows that require deep reasoning. The company says the model is already changing how its teams work and build software.
The launch comes as major AI companies continue releasing increasingly capable models and competing over performance. OpenAI recently launched Astra, which it described as its most capable model at the time, while Anthropic released Fable and other models earlier this year.
Google is also promoting Argon’s performance against competing AI models. According to the company, Argon scored significantly higher than OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Fable and Opus models across several AI benchmarks. Google also points to results from AI benchmarking startup Vals, which places Argon at the top of its model index.
Google has been working to strengthen its position in the AI market after previously being viewed as behind some competitors. The company has recently highlighted strong growth for Gemini, announcing in August that its Gemini app had surpassed one billion monthly users. OpenAI has similarly reported that ChatGPT reached one billion monthly users.
