Google isn’t planning to get rid of ads anytime soon. Even with the rise of AI-powered search, the company says advertising will remain a big part of its business.
In fact, Google recently reported more than 56 billion dollars in ad revenue from Search and YouTube, which makes it clear that ads are not disappearing from its platforms.
Right now, Google is testing two major AI features in its search system. The first one is called AI Overviews, which provides quick answers at the top of search results by gathering information from various websites. The second is AI Mode, a more advanced feature that works like ChatGPT and provides personalized answers tailored to your needs.
Google also plans to connect AI Mode with Gmail, Drive, and other services to create a personalized experience that knows your habits and preferences. It might sound a bit scary, but that’s clearly the direction Google is heading.
In a recent podcast, Google’s Robby Stein said the company’s ads business isn’t going anywhere, though it will continue to evolve. He explained that in the future, users might interact with ads more naturally and helpfully. For example, you could take a picture of your shoes and ask Google to show you similar styles. Or you might describe your food preferences and allergies while searching for a restaurant, and Google could respond with personalized suggestions, possibly including ads that fit your situation.
Stein mentioned that Google has already started testing ads within AI Mode and other AI experiences. These ads are designed to blend naturally into the conversation while still being relevant and useful. The goal is to make ads feel like part of the solution rather than an interruption.
It’s clear that Google wants people to rely on AI Mode for personal questions, and in return, it will show ads based on those conversations. The company is still experimenting with how this will look, but it’s safe to say that AI-powered ads will become a normal part of the search experience in the future.
