An international police operation has led to the arrest of 270 people involved in illegal activities on the dark web.
The operation, codenamed Operation RapTor, was coordinated by Europol and included law enforcement from ten countries across four continents.
Authorities seized over €184 million (around $207 million) in cash and cryptocurrency, more than two tonnes of illegal drugs, and over 180 firearms. The drugs included cocaine, ketamine, amphetamines, opioids, and cannabis.
The suspects were identified using information gathered from previous takedowns of dark web marketplaces such as Nemesis, Tor2Door, Bohemia, and Kingdom Market. Most arrests took place in the United States, followed by Germany, the UK, France, and South Korea.
Europol says many of the suspects were responsible for thousands of illegal sales. This operation sends a strong message that law enforcement can reach criminals even on the dark web, which is often thought to be anonymous.
The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected. This operation follows previous efforts like Operation SpecTor in 2023 and Operation Dark HunTOR in 2021, which also targeted dark web crime.
