GitHub suffered a major outage after one of its developer features failed in a serious way, causing problems for teams working on shared projects.

The feature is designed to manage a queue when many developers are contributing to the same project. Its main job is to prevent code changes from clashing and reduce the risk of developers accidentally breaking things.

But yesterday, the system failed because of a bug that randomly reverted commits that had already been merged. In simple terms, some previously approved code snapshots were rolled back unexpectedly, creating confusion and disruption for developers using the platform.

The outage happened on the same day reports surfaced about employee concerns over GitHub’s reliability and leadership. GitHub also faced other service disruptions yesterday, adding to the pressure around the company’s stability and internal direction.
