Dropbox is officially discontinuing its password manager, Dropbox Passwords, on October 28, 2025.

If you’re using it to store your login credentials, you’ll need to move your data to another password manager like 1Password, Bitwarden, or LastPass before that date.

The shutdown will happen in phases. Starting August 28, 2025, Dropbox Passwords will become view-only. You won’t be able to add new information, and autofill functionality will be disabled across both the mobile app and browser extension. Then on September 11, the mobile app will stop working completely. Finally, on October 28, the service will be shut down for good, and all stored data will be permanently and securely deleted from Dropbox’s servers.

Dropbox Passwords was launched in 2020 after Dropbox acquired password manager Valt in 2019. It offered encrypted storage and autofill for login credentials, integrated with users’ Dropbox accounts. While it was a convenient tool for many, Dropbox says it’s ending the service “as part of our efforts to focus on enhancing other features in our core product.”

If you use Dropbox Passwords, it’s important to act quickly. Export your stored data and import it into another password manager as soon as possible. Most leading apps offer import tools and setup guides to help with the transition.
