Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is expected to release its next-generation AI model, V4, in mid-February, Reuters reports.

The new model is said to focus heavily on advanced coding capabilities, positioning it as a potential rival to leading AI systems from OpenAI and Anthropic.

Internal testing by DeepSeek employees reportedly shows that V4 could outperform models like GPT and Claude in coding tasks, especially when handling complex programming challenges. The model is also said to support extremely long code prompts, which could give developers an advantage when working on large or complicated software projects.

Based in Hangzhou, DeepSeek has garnered international attention after launching models such as the DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1, earning praise from Silicon Valley executives.

However, the company has also faced scrutiny regarding security and privacy in several countries. Reuters said it could not independently verify the report, and DeepSeek has not yet commented on the expected launch.
