OpenAI appears to be testing a new Writing Style feature in ChatGPT that could make AI-generated text sound much more like the way individual users naturally write.
The feature was spotted by Gael Breton, who shared a screenshot on X on September 4 asking, “Is this new in ChatGPT?” The screenshot shows a new “Set up writing style” window that says ChatGPT will write in your voice by referencing examples from your connected apps.

The setup screen includes three options: Messaging, Documents and Email. In the screenshot, all three are shown as connected, suggesting ChatGPT may be able to use examples from different types of communication to understand a user’s writing habits.
The reported setup includes Slack for messaging, Google Drive and Notion for documents, and Gmail for email. OpenAI already supports connecting ChatGPT with several external apps, allowing users to search and reference information from services they have authorized.
If the Writing Style feature works as shown, users may no longer need to repeatedly explain how they want ChatGPT to write. Instead, the AI could learn from existing messages, emails and documents and use those examples when generating new content.
That could be especially useful for people who communicate differently depending on the situation. The way someone writes a quick message can be very different from how they write an email or a long document. By looking at examples from multiple sources, ChatGPT could potentially produce responses that better match the user’s usual tone, wording and communication style.
The idea is similar to Anthropic’s Styles feature, which allows users to customize how Claude responds based on their writing preferences. OpenAI’s approach appears to go a step further by using writing examples that already exist in connected applications rather than relying only on samples manually provided by the user.

OpenAI has confirmed that it is testing Writing Style, but the feature has not been announced as a broad rollout yet. It is currently available only to a small group of users, and there is no confirmed date for when everyone will get access.
