Apple has released Xcode 26.3 with support for agentic coding, a new way for developers to build apps using AI-powered coding agents.
This update allows Xcode to work more independently toward a developer’s goals by breaking tasks into steps, understanding the project structure, and making decisions using its built-in tools.
Agentic coding builds on the intelligence features introduced earlier in Xcode 26, which added a new coding assistant for writing and editing Swift code. With version 26.3, AI agents now have deeper access to Xcode’s core features. Coding agents such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex can take part in the full app development process, from early planning to final testing.
These agents can search official documentation, explore project files, adjust settings, and even check their work visually by capturing Xcode Previews. They can run builds, identify issues, and apply fixes, helping developers move faster and reduce repetitive work. The goal is to let developers spend less time on routine tasks and more time focusing on ideas and design.

According to Apple, this tighter integration allows developers to bring advanced AI reasoning directly into their workflow. By working alongside Xcode’s native tools, Claude Agent and Codex can provide more accurate and useful results when building apps for Apple platforms. Developers also have the freedom to choose which AI model works best for their specific project.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said the company wants to put powerful technologies directly into developers’ hands. She explained that agentic coding is designed to boost both productivity and creativity, making the development process smoother and more efficient so developers can focus on innovation.

Xcode 26.3 also supports the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that allows developers to connect Xcode with other compatible AI agents and tools. This means developers are not limited to built-in options and can integrate additional agents that match their workflow, giving them even more flexibility as AI becomes a bigger part of app development.
