Adobe has announced a major update to its AI-powered video generation app, Firefly, introducing a new video editor that allows users to make detailed edits using simple text prompts.

Along with the editor, Adobe is also adding support for third-party image and video generation models, including Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 and Topaz Labs’ Astra.

Until now, Firefly has only allowed users to generate videos from prompts, meaning any unwanted detail required recreating the entire clip from scratch. With the new editor, users can now change specific parts of a video without starting over. They can adjust elements like colors, objects, and camera angles using text instructions. Adobe has also added a timeline view, making it easier to fine-tune frames, audio, and other video details.

Adobe first revealed this editor in a private beta back in October. The company has now started rolling it out to all Firefly users.

Using Runway’s Aleph model inside Firefly, users can give very specific instructions, such as changing the sky’s appearance, adjusting contrast levels, or slightly zooming in on a subject. Adobe says this makes video editing more flexible and closer to how creators actually work.

Adobe’s own Firefly Video model is also getting new abilities. Users can now upload a starting frame along with a reference video showing a particular camera movement. Firefly can then recreate that same camera motion in the new video project.

The update also brings support for Topaz Labs’ Astra model, which allows users to upscale videos to higher resolutions like 1080p and 4K. In addition, Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 image generation model is being added to Firefly, along with a new collaborative boards feature designed for teamwork and idea sharing.
