Adobe has confirmed that it will not discontinue Adobe Animate, following strong reactions from creators around the world.

The company now says Animate will remain available in what it calls “maintenance mode,” meaning users can continue to use the app and access their projects, even though no new features will be added in the future.

According to Adobe, Animate will still receive regular security updates and bug fixes. The software will remain accessible to new users as well as existing individual, small business, and enterprise customers. The company also emphasized that it has no plans to remove access to the application or users’ content, regardless of how the product evolves.

This update comes just days after Adobe announced that Animate would be discontinued, a move that caused frustration and confusion across the animation community. Many creators rely on Animate for web animation and independent projects, and the announcement sparked widespread criticism online. Among those affected were long-time users such as animator David Firth, best known for creating the animated web series Salad Fingers.

Adobe later acknowledged that the original email sent to customers about the shutdown did not clearly explain the company’s intentions. In a Reddit post, Adobe community team member Mike Chambers said the message failed to meet internal standards and caused unnecessary anxiety among users. The company has since updated its official FAQ to clarify that Animate will remain available indefinitely in its current form.

Before this reversal, Adobe had stated that non-enterprise users would lose access to Animate in 2027, while enterprise customers would have access until 2029. Those timelines are no longer in place. Instead, Adobe says it is committed to making sure Animate users can always access their work, even if the application no longer receives major development updates.
