An international anti-piracy group has taken down one of India’s most popular illegal streaming platforms, which had been offering free movies and TV shows to millions of people for the last two years.

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, a coalition backed by more than 50 major film studios and TV networks, including Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Pictures, and Universal Pictures, focuses on shutting down illegal streaming operations through criminal complaints, civil lawsuits, and cease-and-desist actions.

Its latest effort led to the shutdown of the MKVCinemas piracy network along with 25 connected domains. These sites drew more than 142 million visitors between 2024 and 2025. ACE said it was able to track down the operator of the service in Bihar, India. The person agreed to stop running the platform and hand over control of all related domains. Anyone who tries to visit an MKVCinemas website is now redirected to ACE’s Watch Legally page.

As part of the same action, ACE also took down a widely used file-cloning tool that allowed people in India and Indonesia to duplicate copyrighted content directly from hidden cloud storage sources into their own cloud accounts. This tool drew more than 231 million visits over the past two years and helped users hide where the copied files originally came from, making it harder for authorities to remove pirated content.

Larissa Knapp, executive vice president at the Motion Picture Association, said the latest action shows that ACE will continue to pursue illegal services so that creators and audiences can rely on a safer and more sustainable streaming environment.
