Microsoft is laying off more than 6,000 employees, which is about 3% of its total staff.

This is the biggest round of job cuts at Microsoft since 2023, when the company let go of 10,000 workers. The latest layoffs will affect employees across different departments, including LinkedIn and international offices.

A Microsoft spokesperson said the company is making changes to stay successful in today’s fast-moving tech world. The company wants to be more efficient by reducing the number of managers and management layers.

Earlier this year, Microsoft had already started “performance-based” job cuts, which affected hundreds of workers. The company is now continuing with even more reductions.

These cuts follow several other layoffs over the past year. In 2024, Microsoft closed game studios like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin and laid off workers from its Xbox, Azure cloud, and HoloLens teams. The latest job cuts show Microsoft’s ongoing effort to reorganize and focus on its key business areas.
