Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to Chrome, offering users smarter web interactions directly from their browser.

Announced at Google I/O 2025, Gemini in Chrome will initially help users summarize and clarify complex information on any webpage they’re viewing.

With a sparkle icon in the top-right corner of Chrome, users can open a floating Gemini chatbot window that allows them to ask questions about the current page. In early demos, Gemini could summarize product features, compare items across shopping sites, and even help with real-time conversions, like converting ingredients in recipes.

In the near future, Gemini will be able to work across multiple tabs and even navigate websites on your behalf. A demo showed Gemini scrolling to ingredients on a recipe site and responding to natural language commands, showcasing its potential to streamline web browsing.

Gemini in Chrome officially launches on Wednesday for early access users on Windows and macOS. It’s available in English to users aged 18 and older, with access limited to subscribers of Google’s AI Pro and Ultra plans, or those using Chrome’s beta, canary, or dev channels. While mobile support isn’t available yet, Google says it’s “an area we’ll think about.”
