Amazon is experimenting with a new “Buy for Me” button that lets users purchase products from third-party websites without ever leaving the Amazon app.

This feature, powered by agentic AI, enables Amazon to handle the entire purchasing process on your behalf.

Last month, Amazon introduced a test that redirected users to external brand websites for items it doesn’t sell directly. Now, instead of requiring you to manually enter payment details and shipping information, “Buy for Me” automates the entire checkout process.

How It Works

The feature is built on Amazon’s Nova AI system, which has been upgraded with a model capable of executing actions within your browser. It also integrates Anthropic’s Claude AI to complete purchases securely.

  • When you select an eligible item, all product details appear within the Amazon app.
  • Tapping the “Buy for Me” button opens an Amazon checkout page where you can verify payment information.
  • Amazon’s AI then securely submits your encrypted name, address, and payment details to complete the purchase on the brand’s website.

While order tracking is available on Amazon, customer service and returns must be handled directly through the third-party retailer.

Availability and Future Plans

Amazon hasn’t confirmed whether it earns a commission from these transactions but noted that third-party brands can opt out of the feature. Currently, “Buy for Me” is available to a subset of US users on iOS and Android, with limited product and brand support. However, Amazon plans to expand its availability in the future.
